Seattle Longboarder killed when he hit a bus.

Shaner posted,

Chase Anderson, a 19 year old freshman at UW, passed away Friday morning. Chase was riding his longboard down a steep stretch of 45th in the University District early Friday morning when he struck a bus. He was studying for mid-terms late and was just going to get a bite to eat.

Apparently Chase had run a red light and struck the side of the bus. He was then dragged for a while by the bus driver, who was unaware that anything had happened. He was not wearing a helmet.

I mean no disrespect, but I have a feeling that this accident may have been prevented if the proper safety techniques where practiced.

Regardless, a life is lost to soon and my condolences to the family and friends of Chase. Rest in peace.

Tad replied,

This is the second longboard related death this month in the seattle area. Both involved riders w/o helmet and not using any common sence. Local skaters best keep thing on the down low for a while. This is tragic for the family's and friends and for our sport in general. Lets be smart out there. wear your helmets and be safe. It is likely that the kid who died a couple of week ago would be ok if he was wearing his helmet.
