lathe help

chocolate posted,

For those who do lathe down their wheels or create their own rain wheels with a lathe, how do you get the wheel secure on the lathe. Is there a certain tool, or did you make your own way of holding it on there.

if your gonna use a lathe, just be cautious you dont take down too much.

find a piece of rod that is long enough to get all four wheels onto it sandwiched side by side to eachother and secure them by either welding a washer or using some sort of fastener. i lucked out and got my dad to put some threads on the rod so i could just hold them in place nut and bolt style. attatch one end into the chuck and let the other end spin free. use a diamond shaped bit to do the cutting if you have it. i found that i liked the tread best cut with that. its best to take a sharpie pen and mark where you are going to put your lines first too (if you have access to some calipers, use them to make sure that all the lines are the same distance apart) make sure that you dont go to close to the edge or you will chip off some of the eurothane.
paitence is key in this one so make sure you take your time and have them secured properly so you dont waste a set of wheels...the ureothane will chip off easily if you go too deep

post up with any more questions
