Cost of Living in Vancouver

Im looking at doing some travelling next year. The plan is to spend some time in southern californa and vancouver drinking, skating and surfing. I plan on not working and spending around 3 months in each place and was wondering what the cost of living is in Vancouver so I know how much to save.

van is kinda expensive, a small box of cereal costs like $5. beers at the store just under $2 each and at the bar $5. fuel is $1.4/L.
