i've been looking around at the skateboarding world from outside for a while now and i've come to realize that the typical skateboarder is an asshole...not caring about anyone else or anything else but themselves, or their ride, or whatever trick they can pull. even if that trick will scrape the #### out of some planter's ledge that someone spent time and money painting to look nice.
imagine that u own a horse track....now wake up in the morning and go take care of your daily business to find hay bails that were sold to a friend spraypainted with the words '#### silverfish' and other obscenities. dont quite see anything wrong with it.....pretend that u are nothin but an old-timin, straw-chewin, small-town cowboy who already thinks that skaters are too much trouble than they're worth.
as unfortunate as it is...us skaters have a reputation that is VERY VERY FAR from good. in fact, our reputation isn't even decent....it downright sucks ass! we go somewhere and destroy. we never clean up after ourselves. we dont follow rules, dont even care to try. it's so bad that sometimes i even see us treat each other like ####. not that this last one is a bad thing....in order to push ourselves in our sport, i believe sometimes that we need to give each other a lil #### every now and then, maybe prove our peers wrong to teach us that much more.
i'm not sayin that this all goes for EVERY SINGLE SKATER in existence. but it is the case for a lot of us. and maryhill this year was a great example. the morning after scoot took the win a second time u should've seen the property where the party happened. fire extinguishers emptied and layin all over the place...more trash than u can fit in your house all over. mud all over the bathroom floors. cant forget the flour(not that it was bad...but it was bad). and i guarantee that most of the people that contributed to the mess didn't even try to wake up and clean it. it was probably cleaned by the people that drug their asses out of bed at 5am and felt bad for whoever owned the place. i know one morning of the event, a zoobomber that i know woke up and cleaned up 5 big bags of trash by himself. i think a lot of us need to actually take a look at how the world sees us and start tryin to change it. i see so many great people that love riding skateboards. a lot of which wouldn't even harm a fly. all they wanna do is rip around the neighborhood and stoke out a couple groms they see as they fly by at 40 mph. as true as this fact is, i'm amazed that bigger steps aren't being taken to change our reputation.
they say u cant teach an old dog new tricks. but how old is skateboarding really???? i'm not completely sure, but i think it's one of the youngest sports in the country right now. i could be wrong about that...but it's not like skateboards have been around as long as say, the olympics. we still have the ability to spread the stoke instead of killing it like the generations in the past have.
look at alva...one of the PIONEERS of our sport....one of the first. but have u ever met the man. i went to a kegger at one of his new shops in LA one year and actually met him. showed him my board and everything. know what he said about my awesome vanguard. "what's that thing for?" and he laughed in my face about my skateboard. MY SKATEBOARD! how can one of the fathers of our wonderful sport of skateboarding laugh in the face of what he helped create? it came down to the fact that my board didn't say "Alva" on it. and he decided to be a prick about it.
this is unacceptable....it must be changed.
if we are to grow to any level beyond where we are now...our reputation must be saved."

I just wanna said that whoever is complaining about the party at night at the campsite is just jelous about no being part of the crew that were having fun. Yeah dude! you are a kook.
