OUTLAW SERIES WITH CLASSES!!!!

kate or die posted,

imagine a world where your local city has a club racing circut. a circut where instead of 5 heats of one class go down the hill, 5 heats of three different classes go down the hill...

this is me encouraging EVERY city out there to pool together and come up with your own series of events(that i know alot of you already do) but organize them together a little bit more and throw in a points system.

these are races where you are to not expect all the pros to show up to. they can be in shit town manitoba for all i care, but as long as your racing every two weeks with things like JR, WOMENS, ADULT NOVICE/PRO...you too can turn your own home town into a city full of local champions.

this subject is very close to heart with me as i grew up racing in classes. do you think quinn likes coming in last place cause he's 100 pounds lighter than tom edstrand? haha! wouldn't you like to see these little dudes battle it out against eachother on a weekly/bi weekly basis cuase they are on the same level as eachother.

I DONT CARE WHERE YOU ARE FROM. GET YOUR TOWN SOME GOD DAMN CLUB RACING!!!!!

it takes the same amount of time to run the same amount of heats...its just a way to guarantee that those heats are stacked with riders of the same ability.

i cant stress how many more people would come out to race these "small" events if they knew they werent gonna be eliminated first round.
i would personally love to see more ladies show up to events (and lets face it boys...i know you would too ;)) and i think this would be a great way to have that happen for bigger cities like vancouver. as for you small town folk...throw the girls in with the boys who haven't been at it for long, or the kids if they aren't going that fast yet...whichever group fits their abilities the best.

not to mention this is a great way to encourage participation from the little dudes! we are blessed with the presence of a few of them up here in van, but i GURANTEE that more will show up when thier parents realize that they are not gonna be racing dudes 5 times their size.. lets face it, something fucks up...its a safety issue...these little guys are gonna get CRUSHED. my motherly instinct is saying i probably wouldn't want to put my little precious in that situation no matter how gnarly he is!!!

my experience at old tunnel outlaw in berkeley is my best example. i got there and HOLY SHIT there were a massive amount of little dudes running around!!! too bad they all got eliminated first round when they were sent down the hill with the big boys. why not have them race eachother and battle it out for a jrs. win at every little race???
GOD!

anyways....
*CALL YOUR FRIENDS!!!

*COME UP WITH A POINTS SYSTEM (20 people show up...1st place gets 20 points, last place gets 1 point...)

*ENCOURAGE PROPER CLASSES, AND FIGHT TOOTH AND NAIL TO GET THE WORD OUT THAT THERE ARE PROPER CLASSES!

*GET OUT THERE!!! RACE!!! GET BETTER!!! AND COME TO THE BIG EVENTS READY FOR SOME COMPETITION!!!!

mcskatie@hotmail.com if you need any help figuring out ways to organize events like this!!!

AS FOR VANCOUVER!!!
ANDREW, LEE, MGOLDRICK, ANYONE!!!! please hit me up and let me know what you think. we already know these events go down...what if we try to set solid dates for all your events early on so we can not only let people know whats up as soon as possible, but brainstorm ideas on how classes could be run at these outlaws and how we can intertwine a points system and come up with COASTS VERY OWN LOCAL CHAMPION FOR ALL ABILITIES...NOT JUST THE PROS!!

i cannot stress enough how having solid competition at your own level is very very important for advancement. imagine seeing the machines that every town could produce because they are being trained and raced properly, instead of just getting thrown down a hill for one run, then sitting and watching the next.

i know many people believe that all the newbs should be put in with the big guys cuase thats the way you had to do it, but lets face it...they already know your gonna put them in their place, so why not let them respect you from a different start line, and race their own way to yours.

these little dudes are all under 10 years old. LOOK HOW CLOSE THEY RACE BECAUSE THEY ARE RACING PEOPLE THEIR OWN ABILITY!!!!!!!!!! its time for our form of racing to catch up with the styles of every other form of racing...motorsports or not.

sorry for so many posts...bored and passionate!

kate or die replied,

hey scoot i fully agree with you on needing more established freeride events, but the outlaw series im thinkin of is a little different.

its more like a series of races on the coast for example, that would be more for all the other riders than you team green world champions!!! haha. i just think if there were races where a kid could show up with the hopes of getting first (in his own class and level) more participation would happen.

freeride days at events are a SURE WAY to improve overall riding. but classes are a sure way to imporve overall racing.

hey guys, thanks for that...
and yes im sitting in front of a keyboard wanting to do something...but im not stoned, and im sitting at work for often waaaaaay longer than you could imagine. i dont have to justify myself though, your infront of a computer now too

anyways! people have had mixed feelings about this, and a couple good points have been raised. one being that you need alot of people to run classes and the other being that people think you should run against the top guns and earn your spot. we are the only form of racing that doesnt do classes, and thats becuase we are not as developed as the others. yeah, it may mean that for the first little bit there may only be 3 or 4 racers in a class, but as word of mouth travels and these kids tell their friends to come out racing, watch it expand...i promise! are you just afraid that these little dudes are gonna get better faster because they are competing against someone thats not 100pounds heavier than them? not only that...but what happens if one of them does happen to stay with the pack and everyone goes down in a corner...whether its their fault or not...they are gonna get CRUSHED! that would fucking suck!!! i really think there would be more parents that would be more willing to participate if they new there were precautions taken to avoid a situation like that.

AAAAND if there was a womens class at more outlaw events, i think more would show up. there are alot of girls out there that are scared to show up (despite us telling them time and time again that we would LOVE for them to be there...) if more races were advertised to have a womens heat, after a couple events more and more would be showing as their friends told them that...YES infact there was a womens class. i like racing you boys, but it would be awsome if there was some sort of initiative for more ladies to get involved...whether or not they dont start showing up to the big races till 2010 or something!

as for points...its not to encourage a class champ persay....its more to encourage steady participation as you would have to make every race in order to keep your place in the standings. motivates the people who have been participating, to continue to do so

whatever you decide to do, wherever you live...just do what you gotta do to make sure you encourage people of all levels to come out so that in the next coming seasons (who knows, it could be 5 seasons from now!?!) there is an event for everyone at every level to participate in!

i know alot of you are about keeping this grassroots and all, but it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that this sport is blowing up...and needs to accomodate all of those that want to be involved...

:)
peace and love my lovlies~!
