Sun Run Skate Sesh DETAILS

Tripped posted,

Hey everyone, come downtown on the day of the Sun Run to rip up the shut down streets! It's going to be early, but will be so worth it. Skating across the Burrard and Cambie Street bridges?

Sun Run is on Sunday April 19th. The Competitive wheelchair heat leaves Georgia and Thurlow (the start line) at 8:40, therefore I propose we leave Georgia and Bute (one block into the race) at 8:30. This should ensure that we won't piss off any people seriously competing.

I'm down to meet people at the Art Gallery before hand. I'll get there at 8:00, and we'll leave for our start line at 8:15. Those who know where they're going could just meet us at Georgia and Bute.

I haven't cleared this with the organizers of the Sun Run, but I think we should be okay. We could even potentially alter our route to make it better, but that can be decided later.

Please reply whether or not your planning to come so I can get an idea of what numbers will be.

how many kilometers is the course?

Tripped replied,

Course is 10km. I was thinking about previewing it to see if we want to improvise it at all. We don't need to stick to the exact course if we can find a dope shortcut.

Here's a map of the course. It even has a handy elevation graph to show us roughly where the hills.

I've heard that competitive wheelchair people are fast!!! so new schedule:

We'll try and leave Bute and Georgia (one block after the start line) at 8:20, 20 minutes before the very beginning of the race. Chances are we'll have to get further down Georgia to actually enter the course, So I'm thinking probs Georgia and Broughton (3 blocks after the start line).

We'll still be meeting at the rear of the Vancouver Art Gallery (Georgia and Howe) at 8:00, but will only be there for ten minutes and then we're in transit.

Me and Eric are putting together an email to send to the sun run organizers, informing them of our plans, which will hopefully be for the better. Even if they jump down our throats, I know what I'll be doing this Sunday.

Anyone who shows up PLEASE wear a helmet, and any other protective gear you'd like (I personally never leave without my gloves)
