Spine Protector Recommendation?

Hovey posted,

Thinking about getting a spine protector. Anybody have any experience with a particular brand they like or don't like? Was thinking my back was worth protecting as long as it doesn't interfere with any movements.

I see lots of them because most motorcycle racing santioning organizations mandate them. Some brands I like are:

Bohn Pro Racer- It's big and kind of bulky but it covers more surface area than any back protector on the market. I own one and have crashed in it a bunch of times. Slid backwards into a wood crash wall at 60mph and walked away.

Dainese- Expensive but low profile and very protective. Doesn't cover as much surface, but Dainese has done a ton of R&D and really know their shit.

Teknic- A little bigger than Dainese and also very well R&D'd. Their plastic shell is burly.

Knox- Similar to Bohn but a little smaller. Lots of foam and grea for impact.

EVS- The build lots of motorcycle pads for lots of different riding.

Alpinestars- Bulky and very protective. Lots of highly engineered plastic components. They have spent a ton of $$$ over the last few years developing this stuff.

Impact Armor- Custom made highly advanced and expensive pieces. If you have the dough, they are a great direction to go.

There's a few, and there are a lot of know off brands that build less expensive versions of the same gear. You can find it on Ebay.

Back Protectors feel weird at first, but once you get used to wearing one, it is like a security blanket. You'll not like riding without it.
