I'm a girl..getting my first longboard. Recs?

lizziee posted,

Hey! So i've been skateboarding for the last 2 years (i'm 15) and got seriosly sick of getting places on my skateboard.. it's a pain in the ass! I need a longboard for cruisin around (it's my only source of transportation).
Its hard for me to find a logboard cuz they are all overly huge for me... and cuz well I have NO IDEA what to look for in one.
I am 5"3 weigh 115 pounds and have a shoe size of 7.
I need something good for a beginner, lots of control, and speed, also nothing too expensive!
Oh and I do care somewhat bout what it looks like... i like anything artistic (japanese art/graffiti is my fav) or something surfer looking.

Can you give any recomendations? Thanks!
Oh and I'm willing to buy a used longboard!!

Clayton replied,

buy a nemisis or a spud, there both small boards that are great for commuting. they are low to the ground and super stable and thats what your looking for. in the looks department they arn't japenese like at all, but just paint over it, simple enough.

Sector 9 kommi looks cool, is fast and manuverable! You can find them at underworld or Boardroom! Even if you are it and its not what your looking for, sector has a tonne of cool, surf style graphics.

check out the Rayne Vice, it's a smaller board 38 inches. nice for cruising.

When i first started boarding I got a demonseed because people said it was the best. I'm 5'5 so a 44 inch board is a little big for me. Now I'm looking at a Landyatchz Switch (41.75) or the spud (I like to cruise around and slide so that's the length I figure I need). I defineatly recommend finding a board based on what your style is (freeriding, sliding, commuting). all else fails you'll start a collection of boards like the rest of us obsessed skaters.
