Beware of VXB ceramic bearings

Reece Man posted,

I've had some VXB ceramic bearings for almost a year
now. I know a year is a while but I clean these things
religiously and never rain ride. So this last time I cleaned
them I took them out of the alcohol, dried them, and then
spun them. They were a little rough like they had some
sand in them or something. I figured maybe the acetone
or alcohol was contaminated with sand so I got some
fresh stuff and re-cleaned them.

Wasn't fixed so I looked inside the bearing and I could
notice little pieces of ceramic were chipping off the steel
core. First I was not happy that they were chipping and
then I also was not happy to discover that the balls were
only ceramic coated... Not a high quality product and I
recommend staying away from them.

Just offering a little heads up, maybe you've had a
different experience with them but I will not be giving
them my business anymore. I went out and bought some
Pleasure Tools ceramics from Rip City skates in Portland
(which I recommend over Daddies for those of you who
are coming through Portland on your way to Maryhill and
need last minute stuff). Much more solid feeling actually
just spinning them and only fifty bucks.

replied,

ceramics arent meant to last, they should be used only for racing, not everyday riding, also overcleaning probably weakened the ceramic coating, the alchohol draws out moisture and makes the ceramic brittle
