I am just starting to ride and understand that helmet and sliding gloves are essentially standard. I'd feel a good deal more comfortable with elbow pads as well, at least while learning. So I was thinking rather than walk around with the pads any time I have the board I might pick up a motorcycle jacket like a Joe Rocket Airborne off craig's list or ebay, which would have the added benefit of the elbow, shoulder and spine protection built in. Certainly overkill for any kind of riding I'll be doing right away, but would it be horribly ridiculous and/or too encumbering while riding?

wearing something like that would probably be ridiculously hot while skating in the summer, but in the winter it'd probably be nice lol. Why don't you just go try one on at a shop or something and find out if you're restricted in them or not?
