The just of a longboard park. cost, land ect.

posted,

so ladies i have some info ive gatherd and i
am starting to think that this just might be
to big of a project for just us to take on.
its starting to look like corprate sponsors
and some investors are needed. here are some
prices ive reaserched.

paving:
the cost for a 12x50-foot front driveway is
$1,800-$6,000; for the quarter-mile, two-car
version it's $64,000-$100,000 or more.
Concrete usually lasts 30-50 years and costs
$3-$10 a square foot, or $1,800-$6,000 for
12x50-feet, $64,000-$125,000 for a 16-foot-
wide quarter-mile lane
also Additional costs:
Slopes, curves, odd shapes and other
complications can bump up the total cost, and
smaller jobs aren't necessarily cheaper
because it costs the contractor a minimum
amount to haul the asphalt heater,
steamroller and other equipment to the site.

Land

land is really iffy. the average is 140,00 to
200,000 but can far exceed that.

ECT

if this were to be a bissunes we would need
multiple kinds of insurance, employees,
licenses.

so a mile of paving will cost up to 300,000
plus land
plus insurance

what do we do

the only way this could work is to look for
multiple sponsors, investers, city and
govornment funding, and donations.

what do we do coast..... what to we do

english replied,

This is a very feasible concept in my opinion.

It would take one or two people with educations, connections and most importantly the DRIVE to WANT it to happen.

the first undesignated amount of time would be spent extensively researching every possible aspect.

The second undesignated amount of time would be spent looking for investors and sponsors.

100 000 dollars in the business world is not that much money.

Day passes, season passes, competitions, other events, etc would pay for the initial cost in 10-20 years (pretty quick return on investment in the business world too) and would start making enough money to cover maintenance and eventually turn a profit, or grow...

A jumble fuck collaboration forum conversation isn't going to get anyone anywhere.

If someone really believes in this idea, it could happen. Maybe I'll do it.

dave the wave replied,

developer owns the property we somehow
come up with the cash to pave a road for
the developer developer sells lots and
building sites we have 10-15year
covenant with developer for use of road
10-15 years later developer gives back
moneys or finds new site for building
and coast-longboarding society is born
anybody got a rich uncle or something?

Kieffer_Stabbotsford replied,

looks like we got a solution to banning longboarding. downhill sanctioned longboard parks for the win,
p.s okanagan springs will defenitely sponsor alcohol and money.

Max replied,

I think this is a great idea. They're worried about us
getting hurt, what better way to prevent it than with
a designated park for it. My only thought is this
seems like more of a long term goal... I think it
would be a great idea to follow through with
something that was brought up when this
discussion first started. that being blocking off a
street from traffic saturday afternoons (sunday,
whatever you get the point) It's more of a short
term goal and it seems like the government would
be more willing to throw up some pillons and a
street sign than pave a longboarding park. get
something like that going, show that there is infact
interest and that it is a safe environment and move
on from there. just my 2 pennies.

replied,

As nice as a longskate park is, it isn't
going to be beneficial for us. If
someone does this, the police can make
it illegal to skate anywhere except in
the park (or at sanctioned races), like
street skating. I don't think any of us
want to skate the same stuff over and
over and over and over again.

What we need to do is get it in the
minds of the media that we're safety
conscientious, and not a bunch of
reckless kooks throwing ourselves down
hills in traffic. This is hard to do,
however, when the world sees some people
bombing hills with no shoes.
