GoPro Pole Mount Help? Options/Experience?

Interested in making a hand-held pole mount for my GoPro. Just wondering if I could get some help as to how I should go about putting it together based on people's experience with them?

Just use a Broom stick and attach it to the end with tape while its in one of the sticky mounts. Why would you buy a tripod mount AND tripod.
