RIDER DOWN, Ontario

Napes posted,

Today as many of us in Ontario were warming up for Canadian Champs only 2 weeks away, a terrible accident has happened. At a go fast session one of our riders fell and was struck by a motorcycle, this was at Noon today, he has since then be airlifted to Toronto and is in extremely critical condition.

of course we are not releasing names or details for the families sake but we will keep you updated on his condition.

All of my thoughts are with him.

These accidents have to stop, Please ride safe and ride within your limits

blankman has something to say replied,

first I want to say that a feel terrible
about this and and all the other recent
incidents, my thoughts are with the
fallen rider I really hope he recovers.
but how can you be surprised? I remember
back in the day when there was maybe
half as many longboarders probably less,
and we would hear about a death every
year or so. Of course as the sport grew
there were more and more serious
accidents and deaths, but lately it
seems like the sport has exploded, and
with so many more people pushing the
limits and wanting to race it makes
sense that there are going to be more
accidents and unfortunate deaths.
However, As much as I love the idea of a
downhill skate park, I don't think it
will solve the problem. people still
want to shred their local spots, think
of it like a street skater, they have
tonnes of skate parks but they still
like to find gnarly rails and gaps and
things to skate outside of the park. I
think we just need to set a better
example and have quarterly safety
clinics for new riders, show them how to
be safe and know their limits, I think a
big problem is also inexperienced riders
being pressured into riding something
beyond their skill level. if we focus on
these things we can start saving lives
NOW, but if we start trying to bring the
government into it to get a park built I
think it will just make everything worse
for us in the end, unless it gets built
privately, but thats still not going to
save lives. people just need to be more
aware of the dangers of this sport

i agree it would be great, but still no
one is gonna want to bomb the same hill
every day, and depending on how far you
have to travel to get there there might
be a run just as good in your backyard.
all I'm saying is theres alot we could
be doing right now to save some lives.
but having a place like that to really
push the limits and practice racing
without having traffic and pedestrians
on your mind would be awesome, but its
not something thats going to happen in
the next few years
