Protest for Updated Road Laws

Jackson posted,

So, in dim light of the 3 recent deaths in
our community, and others before, It seems
clear to me that there are not currently
sufficient laws to govern and protect all
those that use the road. We IMMEDIATELY need
laws to both govern and protect everyone from
cars, pedestrians, cyclists, skateboarders
etc. this way people can be held responsible
for their actions and must be responsible on
the road to avoid consequence. and kudos to
those of you who try your best to follow the
rules of the road while skating.

who's with me on this? a protest somewhere
public downtown in support of updated road
laws

I wholeheartedly agree. But before we go protesting,
some concrete ideas need to be laid down on exactly
what change needs to occur. What exactly do we
want/need from the judicial system to make everyone
coexist more safely on the roads?

In any community or tribe there are those that do
their best to set an example and be positive
spokespeople. Then there are those that just don't
give a flying f*.

The issue isn't with the former but the latter. What
kind of incentive can there be to get the latter to
comply and reign themselves in? Especially when
they don't think it will affect them at all? I already
see a lot of them not wearing helmets. So why
should the public care if the skaters don't even care
about their own well being. The ned for public
sympathy is great and the PR is not so great right
now.

I don't mind wearing my helmet, sticking to the
side streets and bicycle paths as much as possible,
and avoiding heavy vehicle or pedestrian traffic.
The thing I am afraid of is that they completely
outlaw it. Then it would definitely suck.

Maybe we need to ally ourselves with bicyclists and
other green transportation users as an overall
advocacy group? How about city council members,
businesses, and parents who would support an
overall alternative transportation agenda? Or,
maybe teachers, after school and community center
programs?

Just a thought.

this is a bad idea, im glad longboarding
is such a grey area, i like speeding and
running 4 way stops and not wearing a
helmet sometimes, i know full well the
risks involved and thats part of the
reason i love this sport so much. i
really dont wanna start getting pulled
over by the cops when im rolling 2
blocks to the store without a lid on.
anyway... if youre so concerned about
safetey why dont you focus your energy
on a clinic or skate school of some kind
and teach people how to be safe on the
road.

youre an ignorent fuck, im talking about
running a 4 -WAY when I know theres no
cars coming because I can SEE theres no
cars, or rolling 2 BLOCKS ON FLAT GROUND
to get milk. if Im going out to shred
Ill put a lid on, if its dark and I cant
see around the corner ill stop at the
stop sign. but if you need mommy to make
up a set of rules so you're dumb ass
doesn't get a booboo then have fun
dealing with the cops. iv been
longboarding for 11 years and I've never
been seriously injured, because I know
my limits and I know how to ride smart.
more laws won't do shit

I agre with rico,logan, jenny,
michael bridge and arthur plona and I teaching groms in abby and many rich parents with good lawyers a company a kid with a name the means something in the money world and it's a sad truth.
find grommies with nice, smart parents to help advocate safety, I've seen anywhere from 10 year olds to 70 year olds commuting, practicing and freeriding all within safeties bounds.
i.e. following traffic speed, road rules, and wearing proper helmets ad gloves and etc.
if you're one of those original longboard type of guys who wants to pick up chicks and cruise back and forth to parties and be a dumbass by all means go out at and cut off cars you dicks, but if you care let's get as many parents, lawyers and commuters as possible to push for sanctioning of the less busier roads, so we can take our safety into a farther because the last longboarder killed was by a drunk person , he was doing his part to be safe now we have to inform the other road users we are also being safe,( for those of you who are) I'd love to see this community grow & it is in leaps and bounds, fight for sanctioned roads, practice your downhill in the mountains, probably better road anyways, if there's any petitions or meeting I would like to attend.
