just a thought

Haven posted,

im not in the scene anymore and i rarely check this site,
so my opinion is not worth much, but i wanted to share
anyways

im so sad to hear that another person died in a
longboarding accident. i really feel for his family and
friends

because i was in the scene heavy fer a few years, and now
im not, i have a different perspective on longboarding
now than i did when i was way into it

longboarding is amazing, the thrill, the people, the
exploring, all that. but there are other amazing things we
can do too, like breathing, smiling, hugging, dancing,
making your parents be proud of you, seeing your friends
do amazing things, and the list goes on. i just wanted to
remind everyone that when you risk your life all the time,
you are increasing the chance that you won't get to do all
the amazing things that you love.

also, one reason why longboarding feels so good is that it
releases adrenaline and endorphins which are like drugs,
even though our bodies make them. and just like drugs,
they are addictive, so we'll keep doing the thing that
makes us release them. and just like drugs, we can build
up a tolerance to them, which makes us do more extreme
things to get the same feeling. this is scary to me because
it means that the more people longboard, the more they
will risks they will take, and sadly we see proof of this with
all the injuries and deaths

i guess i just wanted to remind people that there are other
things that can make you feel good like longboarding
does, and those other things aren't always as risky. i love
all you people, i think you make the world more beautiful
with your board skills. i dont want to find out someone
died every time i check the message board. please
remember all the other things you love (other than
longboarding) and all the people you love and who love
you and ride safe ok?

Katie replied,

Haven for the win! Good to see your name up
here...

she didn't say stop skating you dumb assholes, she
just wanted to voice out her concern for
unnecessary risk, and anyone who is any good at
this downhill thing would probably agree with her. I
don't see the problem with pulling in adrenaline
through various mediums, and any well rounded
individual could probably say the same. Its very
scary for someone who has come in and out of this
scene and is aware of the skill needed and the
dangers involved, to step back, come back, and see
THOUSANDS trying to do the same thing you know
is capable of seriously hurting you or killing you.
Especially when the photos and videos of these
thousands look so fucking sketchy!!!! sooooo
fucking sketchy!!!! like...oh my god your actually
going to hurt yourself sketchy!!!!! Do you people
not agree?! damn. Most of you are from silverfish
now anyways, and believe me...thats where the
ultimate source of sketchy, live road, horrible skill
shit is posted!!!! Fuck!

Your a fool if you think Haven hasn't had her fair
share of black and blue in the learning curve, and
thats why she posted this in the first place. She
knows the curve and just wants you to extend it a
little instead of going all balls out at once when
your not ready for it. Believe me, i feel most alive
on my board too... but there are always days where
I opt to stay indoors because the reality of what we
do has caught up to me.

chicki, when i get home, we're goin dancin! haha

Katie replied,

Ya captain Nemo... who are you to say ;)
Have you skated down hills over 100km/h? yes!
Have you fallen at those speeds??? Yes! Have you
travelled to every fucking race and seen all the shit
thats gone down good or bad, and given handfuls
upon handfuls of riders lifts to these events, advice
and a beer to bring a smile to their face?! yes!

damn, looks like a pretty good credential for a
response in my opinion!

and yes, Haven, in her opinion, which is better for
her than any of yours, has moved on to focusing on
'better' things than longboarding.

i love life and stuff is all its crazy infinite forms.
i hardly ever go bombin around anymore what with the working and needing to not be all fucked up and its payed off. for the first time in years i went just over two weeks without a scab! fuckin eh eh?! that being said i could kill for a good old gravity driven inertia blasting fucking of the wind and pavement almost always. its in my dreams youknow. something akin to a passion for the ladyflower.
i am very safe these days is all i mean to say i suppose. i can work harder when im less fucked up and get raises and use the money for bigger things like vehicles and houses and eurotrips and

BEER

TRUE LOVE!

Sam replied,

All I have to say to this is you can do
2 things with your life, Live in fear or
not live in fear. Fear is what makes a
person who they are, not the car you
drive not the house you live in but what
your willing to do and when is what
truly defines you. Although everyone has
there own opinion and I am not the one
to judge but why stop smoking cigarettes
if you live your life wanting to smoke
them? you can be scared that they are
the reason your going to die or you can
be scared to smoke them the rest of your
life in fear of being addicted. Too each
there own as long as your keeping it
real. Loved the post man, my family and friends feel with you.
