WINSPORT AND THE IGSA

unkle posted,

your fears have become a reality. The big engines are over stepping our grass roots organizers. IGSA and Winsport are teaming up sept 2 2011. We knew that Winsport wanted to take this IDEA from the original founders and now IGSA will become their mistress. We've got some ideas, but we'll wait to here from SLAC and some of our other O.G's before we spark action. Please speak up if you have something valuable to add. no blankmen, no one liners please.

I'm in favor of any event that is well run and we all get to ride a lot.

Sometimes, there is a lot of waiting at events but in the last few years events (UNKLE!) have been well run.

This changes for ANY IGSA event because there are 3 more events. It's not just longboarding. Plus the timing, and lunch delays, delays delays. Gives us time to think up new acronyms for IGSA.

Winsport made calgary rad. They own the chairlift and the road do they not?

No IGSA at calgary. Lots of waiting.

Winsport - give them a chance.
We'll never see what the sport looks like if we don't.

Yeah, I'm not to into this kind of stuff but I don't see why it would be a bad thing. Would WinSport try to take over and change the culture? or try to alter existing formulas to races people already like? Would they remove people that are already involved? Personally from behind my computer reading the WinSport page and what there about according to there page doesn't seem that bad. If it does go bad, we can just ditch them anyways, go back to what people were doing before?

Lee,

Thanks for the thread. I know we are all excited to see what you and SLAC have spent more than a year creating!

As far as my event goes, I hope that people can see the WinSport Canada Cup for what it really is - a chance to compete right here in Alberta.

I have no agenda other than to make an event that riders want to be a part of - and to give away $10,000 in cash.

Bricin, it's too bad that we didn't see eye-to-eye on what happened with SLAC. I have huge respect for Coast as a pioneer for the sport, but not as a monopoly.

I am aware that I didn't start the sport/activity (whatever the purists want to call it) and I have never said that I came up with the idea to ride a board down a hill for money (that was of course something SLAC invented).

All I ask is that you don't get in the way of one of the only guys in Alberta with both the drive and the resources to provide Western Canada with another event to be proud of.

Chad
