Cruising around Van/UBC Dorms

Hey all, I'm taking a trip up to Vancouver and Victoria. I was wondering how it is getting around the city (Van) and the surrounding area on a board. No DH etc, just getting around the city with family & friends.
Also... any recommendations on things to see, places to eat etc? I'll be staying at the UBC and U of Victoria but any local place would be cool.

Also what is the terrain like? Mellow hills with city traffic? How are the skateboarding laws & people over there? I'll be utilizing those bike paths as much as I can.
