2011 IGSA World Championships Announcement

For Immediate Release: December 14, 2010
Contact: Marcus Rietema +1 951 532 6378

Petaluma, CA, USA- The 2011 IGSA World Championships have been awarded to Teutonia, Brazil and the first ever IGSA Junior World Championships have been awarded to Maryhill Washington, USA.
On November 4-6, 2011 the 9th IGSA World Championships will be hosted by the Malarrara Pro Teutonia. This will mark the first time the IGSA has held the World Championships in South America. Teutonia is the fastest course on the IGSA Circuit and features intense head to head competition year after year.
IGSA President Marcus Rietema said, “I’m really excited to bring the 2011 IGSA World Championships to Teutonia. Each year this race attracts a huge number of spectators and there is always a buzz of excitement we don’t see anywhere else. I’m confident that the organizers and local government will work tirelessly to put on a great event.”
With the tremendous growth of the World Championships and the World Cup Series over the past few years the IGSA has decided to hold a separate Junior World Championship for competitors ages 17 and under. On June 29-July 3, 2011, the Maryhill Festival of Speed will host the first ever IGSA Junior World Championships.
“2010 has been another amazing year of growth for the IGSA”, said Rietema. Participation is up over 25% this year making this our sixth straight year of double digit growth. We started the Junior World Cup Series ranking this year and it has quickly become the IGSA’s second largest class. We’re really excited about that. It only makes sense that the Juniors will now have their own IGSA World Championship.” The Maryhill of Speed will still feature its’ full schedule of Open classes as well.
Additional details on the Malarrara Pro Teutonia/IGSA World Championships and the Maryhill Festival of Speed/IGSA Junior World Championships will be announced in the near future.
The International Gravity Sports Association is the international sanctioning body for downhill skateboarding and street luge, organizing the IGSA World Cup Series. IGSA events involve head to head downhill racing competitions where participants routinely reach speeds in excess of 110km/h (65mph) as they hurtle themselves down mountain roads negotiating ninety degree bends and hairpin corners. Riders Meeting replied,

Rumor is the road is going to be almost non
existent by next year? That its basically falling out
from under itself? Is it getting re-paved or is there
a back up plan if the road becomes too dangerous
due to deterioration? I ask because its already
threatening to the best riders in the world and
appears to be more about balls then technical
racing skill. What if it rains? Not like that hasn't
happened there before and wrapped up on
qualifying results, ask any rider if that should
determine a champion. Brazil just seems like a
very risky place to hold such a large title race after
tracking its history the past couple years. A great
destination for an event, and a scene well worth
supporting but Im wondering if this 'World
Championship' announcement is really for the
riders over the organization, and I'm also
wondering if those who actually RACE the circuit
have any say as to what tracks they call appropriate
and inappropriate for title events, even if its just the
top 10 allowed their input? Afterall, they are the
ones that would best know what track qualify's as
taking the worlds best to win.

And hell yeah Juniors. you rock. keep coming out.

Kevin, it's real great that you are sharing your opinion and knowledge with everyone here and giving good dang reasons that anyone who hasn't been there wouldn't really understand.

Max Ballesteros replied,

Yeah, I agree Kevin, although im really
glad the world championship is going to
be in Brazil next year!
I think the hill in Teutonia is really
awesome to ride, but like he said its
more about surviving each run down. The
hill is kind of unique, there are no
other hills like that for you to train
on, the pavement sucks alot, most riders
cant even hold their tuck on that
pavement, and its basically a straight.
The only curve that the track has is not
that much fun, its very open and there
are spots that sucks, if you ride on
them many chances that you will fall, so
most of the times you need to airbrake
for it, to make the clean line.
If next year they make the track longer
from the top with that shitty pavement,
I think most riders wont make through
that 90 degree corner where the pavement
is almost nonexistent.
So the right thing to do for that hill
to be recognized as a World Championship
track, and for everybody to be happy is
to repave it, and start from the very
top possible. Where there will be 2 more
challeging curves and the track will be
about 2.5km long. With that done
Teutonia 2011 will be a legendary race,
and for sure the top speed will be over
130km/h. Lets hope the city repaves the
hill for next year, it will be EPIC!!
If that dosent happen the Teutonia race
will continue to be the gnarliest,
roughtest, straightest and fastest IGSA
race in the world!! Anyways I like
it.... so lets race!

avocado breath replied,

Im claiming if claim any, that the drop zone for a world chip race should be on a hill that hasnt been raced . A one time, one deal. No previous races or history. The world chip race should involve fresh feelings that will promote animal type Instinct. After that next site, new lines .

IGSA: replied,

"WE CAN'T HEAR YOU!!! la la la la la la la la LAAAAH LAAAAH LAAAAH LAAAH. Teutonia it is then. So glad we all agree."

NO!!!! resurface it or re think it! Kevins opinion is very, very valid! Having won this race and being the defending world champ. Time for some logic to be applied here!? There was a reason why why they won't run the juniors here..it's a sketchy and dangerous road!

The Voice Of The Masses. replied,

IGSA your days are numbered! I can sense a new downhill skateboarding governing body on the horizon, one that thinks twice before awarding a road "World Cup" status? i.e: Eastbourne? bwaa ha haaa That road was an embarrassment! Good thing it is no longer!More than half of the so called "competitors" could not ride for shit either! Looking like a complete bunch of amateaurs! How are potential sponsors supposed to take competive DH seriously when THAT was supposed to be "World Class"? Laughing stock comes to mind.

Paskapooperdoop dirk dirka dirk replied,

Other organisers should start calling their events World Champs,it's not like there is some kind of international copyright on the title? We the riders should not let them have it on less than world class courses or courses with crapy surface. If half the money spent on paying IGSA went to paying to have good roads to be closed/patched,then we would have a world championship where a big turnout would mean a much better standard of competition! Sure give Brazil the Worlds by all means! But what about "Chinese View" or something else for fuck sake!? Brazil has much better roads to offer!

Scene moocher hater. replied,

2006 Worlds in CH was such an amazing track.Martin took it and he had a gap on the lot of them! That hill was long, fast, technical and challenging. IGSA take credit for what race organisers work so hard for and all they do is milk the dedicated organisers already low budgets to bring over some "cracker" that is laughing because he had his flight payed for purely so he could be present. For what? Some cheap website with points listings? This shit is like a dictatorship the chairman should be voted in. Enough is enough.

You wish you knew.. replied,

IGSA is milking the scene. We should oust them if they are not gonna hear the riders opinions. They suck at replying to people who write to them, even if it be a prominent figure on their racing circuit? CALLING YOU OUT IGSA! Let's hear what you have to say? Don't be shy! We know you must know about this thread and the opinions of the racers! So pull those balls out of the freezer and tell us what you think about Kev "slating" your 2011 World Champs track choice.Funny how the one's that made this decision will not be the one's risking their lives on this dodgy pavement at 115km/h+ just to win your bogus WC title which is a very bad representation of ALL the best in the world. Stop charging organisers to hold races that count toward points in your flawed "World Title" you are stunting the growth of the DH skateboarding world circuit. Organisers need endorsement not a fat charge to have the IGSA endorsement. And stop staging the world Champs on crap tracks PLEASE!?

I know Koma is probably the only one that feels our pain!

Alex organised the "Rock and Roll" events in Thalgau, Austria. You were there in 2008 in Mr Deeprice.

Thanks for the input Koma! You've got my vote! And Peyragudes is one of the best events ever,EVER!!!!
