GOPRO HD Problem Solving

tynan posted,

My wonderful girlfriend bought me one for
christmas and it works perfectly well.
Unfortunately it plays back on my computer
extremely choppy or in slow motion. I have
looked on the gopro site as well as other
forums and am starting to be convinced that
my computer is just too lame, which is very
disappointing. Just wondering if anybody has
overcome with issue.

My computer is a HP Pavilion Notebook PC
which looks to be circa 2004. It has 33 GB
free out of 93GB, a Intel Pentium Processor
1.73GHz and 1014 of RAM. I dont know much
when it comes to computers, so if anyone
could send some advice my way it would be
most appreciated. Then maybe i could actually
watch and edit videos!

Anthony Flis replied,

GoPros record in a compressed format that is a bitch for your computer to decode instantaneously. Download MPEGstreamclip and batch convert your files into a non compressed format such as HDV of some sort. Editing video in a compressed format is also the biggest bitch and crashes my computer so that's why I uncompress it. If you have 8gigs of ram and a fast processor than it's not a problem but with a four year old mac with 2gigs of ram I have problems.
