striker replied,

Pain that’s one of the main things longboarding has brought me. I just got out of the Williams lake hospital in the caribou country. A few days in the intensive care unit and a couple days coughing blood in the patient care. Story of my longboard life.

Sheep creek for speed freaks a coast longboarding 7th annual hardcore old school British Columbia hill hunting mountain bombing tour. Me the striker takes riders and racers to some of the hardest roughest most unforgiving paved hills in British Columbia. Hitting Mountain Roads from the Duffy lake all through to the caribou. The roads are filled with thick cracks, truck eating pot holes, heavy semis logging trucks molding waves, wheels rollers into the roads and other fun hospital filled surprises. Some of the roads get so rough you just float down them with no sudden moves or you’ll pay the price. To ride this shit is an art and keeps you on your toes. Keeps you honest.

for most cool longboarders that are now spoiled rotten only wanting to ride the perfect smooth as butter roads this grass roots free riding trip is not for you. Or maybe it is for you. It could be just what you need to turn yourself into a rugged all-round all road skater. By the end of sheep creek for speed freaks tour and race you will go home a whole new skater guaranteed.

This year we almost cancelled the big trip but I couldn’t have that so I dropped $12.500 and bought coast longboarders a 1993 33 foot 454 Chevy big block gas sucking hill fucking rv. “THE F BOMB” Been saving for years and its about time I did this. No more depending on anyone elts!! That’s it!! Coast longboarding can hit the road any day any place and have showers n shitters!

After a full day of touring around the caribou Williams lake proves to be a good place to live if you’re a longboarder. Hills all over the place! Lots of crashes and burning legs. Perfect way to warm up for the big race. So we packed this sucker 13 racers and by the time we picked up the 8 chilcolton Indians total strangers from the park and a few more buddies were were up to 22 ripp roaring longboarders and fans. It’s a sheep creek tradition and a chance for the international racers to meet the real people from the land. The chocalton Indians. Every year its a chance for me to give back to some of the unfortunate. Straight to the liquor store! 15 flats of caribou, a 40 of jargarmister, a 26 of Bacardi 151 and a huge 3.75 liter bottle of ruby red big jug wine. Stalked and stoked sailing to the Frazer river where the finish line is where sheep creek rd. meets the mighty sheep creek bridge.

This year was more dangerous than I’ve ever seen. Outlaw race means no hay bails, no meat wagon to save your life, no road closure so traffic is open as usual.

We roll up to sheep creek and we notice that there is construction on the bridge and only one lane is available for cars and logging trucks to pass through and us racers of course. Making this deadly. I thought for sure I was going to win just because of the gnarly factor. This shit was harry. some nice new white cat eyes like 60 of the bastards in our lane just before the last corner and Huge pot holes just before the Finnish line to take you out! When I say pot holes I mean like 15 centimeters deep and 3 of them just waiting for a tight race. I love this race!!

Its race time! Racers that didn’t back out all kicked in there $50 and pulled on there leathers, gloves and helmets. I told the 10 racers we were doing no practice runs, Chinese downhill and winner takes all. I also said that we no meat wagon to save anyone’s life so take it easy. Them I pointed out again that you can see traffic on the bridge from a mile away so be ready to shut down with a crash because its not worth it. But when I was saying this I was thinking in my head I got these guys their not as crazy as me. I was willing to cross the line right beside a car or not. This race is fuckin mine!

Long story short I passed banting to put me in 4th place on the final decent to the bridge I seen a car coming down the hill towards the bridge on the other side of the river so I had to gun it. Woody crashed and I was floating toward the brand new cats speeding 85km-90km racing for 3rd place finish. so instead of hitting the cats eyes I crossed the double yellow line only to see a line of 12 pot hole in a row. Craiders 3 to 5 inches deep. I remember seeing this and thinking oh shit no. I stood tall surprised and tried to feather these suckers but at this speed I was going I had no chance I got about three quarters of the way before I seen stars. I love when you hit the road at that speed you don’t see the ground coming. I felt my insides crush and I seen some more stars and after some rock and rolling I was on the middle line feeling my insides bleed. I re broke an already broken helmet, front side this time so that’s still 8 helmets in 11 years. I heard voices but I couldn’t breath I was gasping for air but not out of control. I told whoever was there that I was bleeding inside my guts, I’m having trouble breathing get me to a hospital now or I’m going to die on this road now but not in so many words. I did think I might die this day. my baby girl passed through my mind. All I was doing was concentrating on my breathing.

It took 6 guys to put me on a tarp and chuck my 320 pound body into a back of a pick up truck country longboarding style. I was off the road and flying down the highway with in minutes. I remember woody. It was a quick trip to the hospital nobody new where the hospital was but with luck the driver caught up to an ambulance they quickly learned the situation a lead the charge to the emergency. My leathers were cut off me. the last ones that fit me but whatever It had to be done.

After a quick operation the doctors inserted a tube into my chest and in my lungs to drain blood fluid from my punctured collapsed lung in to a clear bag. I’m guessing I got a concussion by the looks of my destroyed helmet, 4 broken ribs, 2 swollen road rash hands, two swollen mild sprained ankles and big toes, bruised collarbone area full on yellow arm but that was it. My best crash to date. Well the 97km crash breaking my aero helmet, collarbone and smelling my skin n t-shirt burn while crashing is a close 2nd.

That night in the hospital some of the longboarders came to say hi and I told them it was time to have the awards ceremony…here in the hospital room with me hooked up to my handy heart monitor. In no time we had the podium in the room surrounding my bed and all confused and ripped on morphine I awarded the racers there gold, silver bronze coast longboarding metals!!

This is the only crash I’ve never got up from. Id take all this again over a broken collarbone. I feel really good considering this crash I can walk, I can use my hands, my neck works, my back feels like a million bucks. I’m still coughing up shit my chest is the worst of it all. The muscles just got worked. Getting up and moving around is hard as fuck. I’m healing that’s the main thing. Mom punched me in the head the other night trying to kill a blood sucking mosquito so now I have a bad headache.

Long live mountain bombing!!! Long live coast longboarding and our way of life!! I don’t know how much my body can take anymore I hope I taught you all some good lessons over the years!!! Its all up to you now! Explore the world explore bc Alberta don’t wait for races to speed!!! Don’t wait for a sanctioned to pay for a free ride!! Free ride all year for free!!!
