Strike danger bay 10

COAST LONGBOARDERS AND GUESTS HAVE HAD QUITE THE 11 DAYS OF BRITISH COLUMBIA GRASS ROOTS RACING!! ATTACK OF DANGER BAY 10 WENT OFF HUGE THIS YEAR. RIDERS HAILING FROM BRAZIL, PEURTO RICO, Guatemala, California, Hawaii, Australia, England, new york, new Mexico, Florida, Switzerland, new Zealand and a map book more. we dragged riders through a nightmare in 2 weekends. this year we had broken necks, helicopter evacuations, broken legs, arms, ribs, fingers, wrists and skulls and smashed in faces!! you name it it was broken or wrecked. extreme heat, storms, high winds, freezing cold nights early very early wake up calls if you we lucky enough to sleep and leaf blowing tents, broken tents, fires, slide comp crashes, exploding hay bails, long boarding hockey fights for the cariboo keg, fast drunken punk rock, heavy metal, the danger ravers, banjo man and power clown the 80s metal legends iron maiden cover band. better than maiden.!! $10,000 dollars spread out to the masters, woman's, grom squad, and open classes.

a nature push in the fresh ocean air longboarding athletes power pushers raced in the Egmont grind pumping 8km through the wonderful sweet paved sunshine coast wilderness. only to end up cooking a shoe 8okm onto a crazy wooden govt wharf racing to the end and launching themselves on a low tide 30 feet into the air and smashing into freezing cold pacific ocean waters. then while we have a scuba diver saving the one racer another race drops like a bomb almost landing on top just about sinking all three riders in one go. at the very end when all the racers were saved from shock and drowning wes sampson the scuba diver combs the ocean floor to recover the last years trophy. a sink. the sink is filled with cariboo, cash and other goodies for the top racer. after all is collected and pictures are taken the trophy sink gets a beer duct taped to it for the next years winner to drink. of course its a cariboo.

after tents were rattled for the first time this danger bay not many got sleep as the mob came through and roughed up the camps keeping all longboarders up till the slide comp started. this year we chucked $680 dollars on the slide comp hill. like no other slide comp in the world it was a flat out style jam judged by the worlds best racer k-rimes and respected life saving coast longboarder mike mcgoldrick. they judged a winner but the real winners were the crowds that lined the course getting ankles smashed into by run away boards that needed a place to stay!! the cash was thrown out all over the road just like the 80s arcade game 72o. $100 bills blowing in the wind all over the road. while sliders slid and noticed that the cash it was on. huge slides trying to grip a $20 dollar bill here or a $20 dollar bill there and doing it in style. little 11 year old Quinn cashed in the biggest with a hundred dollar snag. when the cash was all collected the slide comp was over.

attack of danger bay lands on pender harbour mayday. everyone comes home for this. tourists everywhere. boats, planes and busses. everyone on holidays meet Saturday 11am for the huge parade and family celebration. the field is closed off with venders with food and other goodies. a pender harbour mayday queen is crowned and then its on!! attack of danger bay longboarding hockey league holds a rage in the cage brutal skate hockey tournament where 4 teams of 8 from all parts of the globe bash each other with huge hits into the cage that surrounds the court. sticks flying, boards getting chucked over the towering fences onto the crowds. good thing that the court where we play is caged off because we use a heavy metal Japanese sapporo beer can. by the end of the first game the can is crushed into a sharp dangerous ball of metal that can easily send someone to the hospital if taken a slap shot off the face. guffs al stars win it all and suck back the cariboo cup (a full cold lager keg) .

while this is all happening striker that’s me the race organizer draws 4 names out of 230 people. like no other race in the world attack of danger bay gives racers from all corners of the world have a chance to race the race organizer for cash. the names that are drawn will race me one on one for at the most a $200 race. if the racers beats me the striker they get paid. if i beat them i keep my cash they lose nothing because its just a bonus it get the chance to win some cash and race me. this year 2 out of the 4 racers showed up and i won them all.

just like Friday night, Saturday night all the volunteers got cariboo beers. volunteers, band members, sound crew, hay crew, security got all hooked up with ice cold cariboo lager, honey ale and cream ale. made everyday worth it for the crew that worked so hard to make this event successful.

Saturday night ended with more bands and shenanigans. this time the campsite mob came back but had 2 leaf blowers. if you didn’t sleep Friday night you never slept Saturday night. the bands ended at a record time 3:30am in the morning after the bands flicked the switch that’s where it all happened. tent pegs were blown right out of the ground. longboarding campers racers and guests were woken up from 4 am till 6am with what they might have thought was a chain saw!!! but it was just 2 leaf blowers and about 40 mobsters eating your food and blowing up your sleeping bags and tents. the mob worked the whole camp for 2 hours. at one point a crazy camper tore the mega phone out of one of the mobsters hands only to rip the cord right off the thing making it useless. king brian even pulled a knife on the mob. it was hell for a lot of people that race day morning but this was attack of danger bay 10 it was a blast.

race day 6 out of the nine champs attended for the open class shooting for the title and the $2000 prize purse. ladies class 5 time winner brianne davies retired and watched the races and seen skatie katie win $1000 bucks, hollywood wes sampson was there to defend his 40+ masters title and win $1000. the groms class was pack full of 14 and under rippers all gunning for $1000. carnage corner was off the hook. the hay bails got worked this year for sure. the warm up runs.. all we seen was huge crash after huge crash. riders rag dolling off the bails. banners getting caught in wheels and taking racer down hard. racers flipping and getting hit by other racers. 6 racer pile ups full port a potties and fans lined up the race course by the thousands. kids running around filling up garbage bags to collect enough to get into a draw to win a sector 9 or landyachtz longboard. piss jugs were filled on the scaffolding where i announced because i never took a break all day from the microphone entertaining the crowd with crash by crash commentary and other rambles of random funny thoughts that went through my mind at the time of this epic race day.

pender harbour community hall! the awards night was huge and free for all. what a great race k-rimes right now world champion and attack of danger bay 7 champion took year 10 winning the open class while Wes sampson defended the masters class and pender harbour local Curtis watts won the grom squad class. skatie kate won her first danger bay woman's class race and has earned the right to race with the open class and the guys class next year.

a days rest and back to racing. attack of danger bay jakes rash. i talked about broken necks earlier and smashed in faces well this is the hill that does it all. you can pull around 80km - 85km max and thats in the power line corner. the rash has many spots where you can come off the road and break yourself. all the corners are filled with big huge sharp rocks that will cut you and bust you. not like the 230 racers at the last race rash had about 70 racers and all were ready to kick some ass. the man the myth k-rimes defends his championship at the rash while compadre Jeff budro took a huge crash trying to avoid team mate Louie palloni smashing himself head first into the hay bails breaking his neck. Jeff is ok and will walk again so that’s great news for us all. you never want to see a racer go down.

another day rest then off to Britannia beach. a race where i helped start from scratch and help build it for 2 years only to be pushed out of the race by lee caution. with striker out of the way lee cashes in on a great event and burns another bridge and loses trust and a friend.

a perfect race for me to relax and just enjoy good ol bc racing. I set up my cariboo tent right in the middle of the field only to wake up to the rowdy California crew flying into the camp drunk and looking for anyone to mess with. of course they found me. trying to rip me out of the tent i told them where they could find beer but i lied. they came back asked me again and called me a liar. i had 6 flats of cold fresh cariboo in the car. and one flat was the brand new blue boo pale ale. i was not about to give that up. so i told them another lie and it almost got me hung. they pulled up the van and burned out of the camp spitting rocks and grass in my tent. i got off easy. i guess its a little payback form danger bay.

a very dangerous course very fast with a epic bc mountainous backdrop. 3 hairpin corners and defending champ krimes had his hands full with downhill stalkers that wanted a piece of him and the crop. the day started out with j-prime smoking a rider coming hot into a corner and clipping his head sending him into a never ending 80km spin until he splashed head first into the hay bails laying him out until the helicopter could peel him off the road. that was just a start. then sector9 racer g-mack slipped up in a corner and the world champion k-rimes tried to avoid the body by jumping off his board and running it out only to break 3 bones and dislocate his ankle a very sad day in the world of longboard racing. we witnessed the best in our sport go down with a mangled ankle and taken away by the meat wagon. k-rimes will be ok. should be back in 3- 4 months. with k-rimes gone a favorite to win the race next in line was p-swiss for the win and he did just that just eeeking out landyachtz ripper Andrew from Ontario at the Finnish line.

so if you were wondering where striker boo was and why you haven't heard form me in a week well it hasn't been easy. this is the craziest weekend in Canadian racing if not the the world. i made it out alive we all did but not without some causalities. were off to the cariboo this week for the 7th annual sheep creek for speed freaks outlaw. the road is very rough and racers will get speeds up to 90km in the top and rough bottom section. a race you will need balls to enter. the Finnish line is on the bridge crossing over the mighty Frazer river if were lucky maybe cariboo with chuck some kegs in the river and we can net them by the time they float by us after the race. camp by the river, or striker boos moms place or in the caves up by monkey face on the race hill. stay tuned!
