Caliber trucks

Tyler posted,

I just got my calibers not long ago and LOVE them, but
I'm having a bit of a problem with them. One of the
hangers I can finger tighten the nut all the way down to
the bearing on both sides, I've tried different nuts, even
the ones on the other hanger that need a tool to be
tightened. one of my friends had this same problem
with his and his wheels ended up coming off in a
corner... I'd rather not have that happen to me lol. Has
anyone else encountered this problem with their
calibers or is there just something I'm missing?

CHEVY CHASE replied,

if its a common issue with other caliber
trucks it probably means they machine
shop or whoever made the trucks set the
thread depth too deep when they were
cutting the threads in the axles. this
will make the nut spin on too easily.
it should be on average 3 turns by hand
for correct thread depth - depending on
the application. CALL CALIBER!! and let
them know whats up so that it doesn't
happen with the next batch of trucks. it
should have been figured out by their
quality control dept. but obviously it
didn't. You may get some free
(new&improved) hangers out of it that
don't have the same problem. if they
don't send you new hangers what you can
do is get pipe thread tape (its white)
and wrap that on like 4 or 5 times (in
the direction the nut will spin on
remember) and that should make up the
difference to give you a tighter fit.
its not ideal but it'll do the trick in
a pinch. also use brand new nylock nuts
aswell. that'll help... a bit. but most
importantly call caliber and tell em
whats up, and that they screwed up on
the trucks causing a safety issue - that
is a fuckin wheel falling off!!! you'll
hopefully get some new hangers out of
it.
