Colorado DH PISTOL Petes 50th Bday Race

posted,

This hill rivals many of the more popular DH races
around the country. Unlike the majority of past
Colorado outlaws, Pistol Petes 50th Birthday Race had
the technical turns, fast sweepers, and long
straightaways all packed in a 3/4 mile course. Added
bonus was it was a closed road and snowbanks served
as haybales. Generally, at a Rado outlaw you could
count on 1/2 dozen sponsored pros mixing it up with
noobs threrfore the finals are usually fairly
predictable.

Today's race was pro free with kids traveling as far as
100 miles to participate in the DH action. Special
appearance from the Colorado State University long
board club cspturing some semi final showings.

We run heats of 4 top 2 advance. $5.00 buy in gets you
racing on an awesome hill with consolation rounds,
shuttle to the top, and chance to win assorted prizes (
trucks, Ca$h, wheels, etc..) donated from a new local
skate shop in Golden called Gravity Spot Downhill
Shop.

While leathers and a full face helmet is suggested, the
majority of kids wore half shells and zero pads.
Sketch!!!!!!! As with any race, the further one advances,
the crazier the action with tight packs, crashes, close
finishes.

Without the pros we have new podium faces yet the
riding and style has not diminished and is better than
ever:

1st - Devon from Aurora
2nd- Aaron Hampshire, Breckenridge
3rd- Shaq Deisel, Aurora
4th - 16 year old Gunnar Morin from Lakewood/
Golden
