Assistance Needed!
Chris posted,
Hey all,
We are a design team from the University of New Mexico in the mechanical engineering department. For our senior project we are creating a low-profile, light-weight longboard brake system. This brake will be designed for when a rider is NOT on the board. (Such as in the occurrence of a crash.)
For this project we need your help. We have created a market analysis survey, the link for which is posted below.

This survey should only take a couple of minutes and your input would be much appreciated.
Thank you

Ever heard of a leash?
A short leash does just that without adding weight to the board and its simple.
The only time I've ever used one is skating a moutain pass with no curb and 300 ft drop off the side. It was really rough like 2-3" cracks every direction (worse than Barret)and you had to throw check slides the whole way down. Every once you would throw one and get caught up.
anyway for your class project maybe this helps...
The lighter the better. Maybe something pressure activated. Like a drop safety or an HK P7M8s squeeze cocking pistol grip in theory. For example a compact switch that is activated by your front foot that when you are not on board activates a brake.
